Regardless of income, any student who wants to be considered for federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs—including grants, scholarships, work-study, and more—should complete the FAFSA.
1. Prep before filing.
Before you begin, there are a couple things you can do to prepare.
First, you and your parent(s) will each need to register for your own FSA ID using social security numbers (SSN) and unique email addresses. Learn more about creating your account(s).
Next, gather together the information and documents you’ll need handy while filling out the FAFSA—such as SSNs, tax returns, and driver's license numbers. See the list here.
2. Fill out the FAFSA.
When you’re ready, log into fafsa.gov to fill out the 2024-25 FAFSA. It takes most people less than one hour.
